Short Bio

As long as she can remember, Cheryl Ann Boc-Chidester has thought of herself as an artist. After attending Eastern Michigan University and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (and, later, a Master of Science Degree), she has held several art-related positions – graphic designer, gallery manager, art instructor, muralist, set designer, architectural historian, until recently, she served as the director of the Argus Museum and is the proprietor of Cheryl’s Creative Custom Art & Framing. Her work has been accepted in numerous juried exhibitions throughout the Midwest and, occasionally, beyond. Galleries in Michigan and Wisconsin carry her art. Additionally, Chidester was awarded a 2021-2022 Michigan Council of the Arts and Cultural Affairs grant.

Statement

Although my art can be described as eclectic, it shares common themes and is often inspired by nature, my travels, and experiences, and by my love of history. I work in a variety of media and frequently combine techniques and media employing textures, light, and color to convey my impression of a subject matter, place, culture, or moment. I appreciate exploring materials, methods, and ideas while staying true to them, as they guide me through the process of creating art. No matter the media or subject, I strive to interpret and share personal perspectives of a culture, place, or moment in time – often capturing a feeling of serenity, perhaps, quiet joy or beauty. I have a deep commitment to create a meaningful connection with others through my art.
